30 Days of Meditation: Meditate vs. Procrastinate

Today’s lesson: If you can’t get a damn thing done, meditation makes doing nothing count as doing something.

What happened: Pre-lunch fog, compounded by first-official-workday-of-the-new-year ennui. Normally, this might mean get sucked face-first into Pinterest or tumblr. And it did.. until I decided to jump into the day 3 meditation practice.

What I did: Went into the mini-kitchen, closed the door and did the 10 minutes despite officefolk just inches away.

How I did it: Let the meditation go with the sound flow. Decided to let the white noise of the traffic outside be the focus and it mostly worked…

How I felt: ..Until one of the designers came into the office. Did she even look in the kitchen? Unlikely. Yet when she enters, 13-year-old me appears.

“I must look stupid” - ah yes, there’s the thought. I never worry about looking stupid when staring at a screen for hours, applying mascara without a mirror or ordering a 3rd drink. Yet sitting on a couch with my eyes — and the door — closed - THIS created an insecurity.

Interesting how doing the good stuff can make us self-conscious but bad behavior usually feels ok more often than it should.
